Once
the summer comes, you realize that your air conditioner
is running all day long just to keep up with Florida’s
soaring temperatures and humidity. There might
be nothing wrong with your air conditioner, however—it
could be your windows. If they’re old and leaky,
they need to be replaced with windows that are
able to keep more cold air in your home so that
your air conditioner doesn’t have to work so hard.
When you are on a quest to find the most energy
efficient windows available—ones that can stand
up to Florida’s climate and greatly reduce your
electricity bill in Tampa, Clearwater, St Petersburg,
Ft Myers, Jacksonville, Orlando, and throughout
the state—it’s time to call Duramade.
Virtually all installers of
replacement
windows will say their products are energy
efficient, but there are vast differences between
the many brands and styles of windows on the market
today. The only way to tell the difference between
energy
efficient windows is to look at the window’s
U-factor (also called U-value) and Solar Heat
Gain Coefficient, or SHGC.
Also, to ensure you are actually
looking at the most energy efficient windows possible,
the window’s U-factor and SHGC should be independently
verified by the National Fenestration Rating Council,
or NFRC. (“Fenestration” is any opening in a building,
including windows.) The NFRC is a program established
by the U.S. Department of Energy to help consumers
compare the true energy efficiency of windows.
Participation in the program is voluntary and
provides consumers with an outside, third-party
inspection and testing of windows. This is why
most manufacturers do not participate in the NFRC,
since extensive third party testing will probably
prove that their windows are not the most energy
efficient windows on the market.
At Duramade Windows & Doors,
we carry Gorell windows, a manufacturer of vinyl
windows that is proud to be a member of NFRC.
By participating in NFRC, all Gorell windows you
purchase from Duramade are independently verified
and labeled to show that they meet our energy
efficiency claims.
When you are ready to learn
